Mark Zuckerberg apparently wants to pass on his talent to his two daughters as early as possible. The Meta CEO has apparently been teaching coding to his children since the age of three.
This was revealed by Zuckerberg's wife, Priscilla Chan in an interview with The Times. They have two daughters, Maxima (5) and August (4).
Chan said she and Zuckerberg split parental duties, and her husband was in charge of putting their children to bed.
"Sometimes they read books together. Sometimes they code together," said Chan, as quoted by The Independent, Monday (1/111/2021).
"Mark has been doing that with August since he was three," he continued.
Chan, who is of Chinese descent and can speak Mandarin and Cantonese, also revealed that one of Zuckerberg's other habits when putting his children to bed is reading prayers in Mandarin.
This is not the first time Chan and Zuckerberg have opened up about teaching coding to their children. In June, Zuckerberg uploaded a photo of August learning to code using the Kano app on his MacBook.
Zuckerberg himself started learning coding when he was in 6th grade. The Facebook/Meta founder previously revealed that he learned coding with the help of the book 'C++ for Dummies'.
In the interview, Chan also revealed that his two children will only be allowed to use social media when they are 13 years old. Social media applications such as Instagram, Twitter and TikTok only allow users aged 13 years and over.
At the same time, Instagram is constantly being criticized for having a bad influence on the mental health of teenage girls. Regarding this, Chan said the important thing is to talk about it with the children.
"Social media is an online community but children are involved in many communities that they -- we -- don't have complete control over, and there are a lot of variables that can keep them happy, healthy and safe," she said.
