The e-commerce giant is confused about the Corona Omicron variant

Global e-commerce giant, Amazon, said the discovery of a new variant of the Corona virus (COVID-19), namely Omicron, made trade supplies nervous.

Amazon's Chief Executive of Consumer Business, Dave Clark said, consumers are still watching the development of the Omicron variant which has recently become the talk of the world.

Currently, a number of countries have imposed travel restrictions on those originating from South Africa, where the Omicron was originally discovered since November 24. This is done to suppress the spread of the virus which is categorized as a Variant of Concern (VoC) by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The United States itself imposed travel restrictions, after the Omicron variant emerged and spread to other parts of the world.

The Indonesian government has also tightened entry gates, both from air, land, and sea so that the new variant of Corona does not reach Indonesia.

Even though the world of e-commerce has become more uncertain due to Omicron, due to supply chain disruptions. However, Clark said that it is still too early to know how the Omicron variant will impact consumer spending during the holiday season.

"It's still very early in the process of understanding what's going on with the new variant," said Dave Clark, chief executive of Amazon's consumer business.

Clark is very optimistic about the ability of scientists and pharmaceutical companies to develop effective vaccines against Omicron.

"Consumers will wait and see what happens, but will carry on with their lives into this holiday season," he said.
