Nicholas Saputra is known to be very private and rarely shares private moments on social media (medsos). The actor, known as Rangga in the film Ada Apa dengan Cinta, shares tips on maintaining privacy.
Answering one of the questions at the virtual press conference launching the Digital Literacy Room in collaboration with Ruangguru and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Nico admitted that he had no personal experience regarding privacy issues because he took great care of it. But he learned a lot from the experiences he often heard from others.
"Many friends complain about how their privacy is disturbed. But sometimes it comes from ourselves, whether we share too much information about family, what we do for example," he said.
According to Nico, we need self-control to what extent and what information we can share in the digital space. "For our own privacy, we must have control over how wide the reach of what we share on social media is. We can choose features that can be more restrictive, it will greatly affect the reach of what we post," he said.
In addition, he continued, there is also privacy relating to other people that must also be considered. "When it comes to other people, consent is needed, an agreement with that person whether it is permissible to share the photo, whether he is comfortable or not. It is very different from if it is only related to our own privacy, we have full control over it," he explained. .
Not only adults, this Ruangguru brand ambassador said privacy issues are also important among children, so parents need to have knowledge about this.
"With children, privacy is also important to consider, whether related to the information provided, this will affect their safety, or their comfort when they grow up. By knowing these things we can measure what things are safe in the digital space for us and others ," explained Nico.
Nico added that knowledge about privacy is part of digital literacy. At a time when internet penetration is increasing rapidly, digital literacy among users also needs to be improved.
"Indonesian digital literacy is still working hard so that people can benefit from this digitalization, and reduce its bad effects," he said.
He hopes that the collaboration between Ruangguru and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in launching the Digital Literacy Room platform can reach the public more widely, considering the speed of technological development must be balanced with digital literacy.
"We seem to be being chased, on the other hand, we feel comfortable with technological developments as well as surprised how different the digital space is from the real world. Therefore understanding digital literacy is something that we need to work together to improve together," he concluded.
