WhatsApp Prepares Community Features, Makes Group Admins More Powerful

WhatsApp is reportedly releasing a new feature called Community. This feature gives admins more power over the group.

The feature was originally discovered by XDA Developers last October. Now the WABetaInfo page has confirmed the existence of this feature.

It is said that WhatsApp is still developing the feature on Android and iOS. Testing was also carried out internally, so it has not been found in the beta version.

With Communities, admins can create groups within groups. Also admins can invite new users via link and then start sending messages to other members.

Regarding security, WABetaInfo ensures that conversations are end-to-end encrypted.

Regarding the appearance itself, it looks like there is a slight change from the usual group chat. As WABetaInfo points out, the community icon will be a box with rounded corners.

The format had been activated by WhatsApp but was deactivated in October.

It is not yet known when WhatsApp will release this new feature. However, the existence of the Community feature will further shorten the gap between WhatsApp and its competitors, namely Telegram and Signal, as reported by The Verge, Monday (11/8/2021).
