Here's How To Pee In Space Like A Japanese Billionaire

When in space, how do humans urinate and defecate? The Japanese billionaire tells how.

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has returned to Earth after a 12-day vacation in space. He went on a space tour aboard a Soyuz rocket belonging to Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency.

Maezawa spent 12 days staying at the International Space Station (ISS). The stories of Maezawa's journey before leaving for space tourism to living for 12 days there have been uploaded on his YouTube channel.

The average content is simple but it can answer all questions about life in space. For example, drinking in space, making music, how to brush your teeth, to playing with zero gravity.

To create Youtube content, he was assisted by his assistant Yozo Hirano and accompanied by cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin. One of the unique content for his 1 million YouTube subscribers is how to pee in space.

Of course, this is a question for many people as well, how to urinate and defecate in space. As seen from his YouTube, he shows the toilet belonging to the ISS.

For urinating, there is a tube with a funnel that has a vacuum power. Maezawa said, we have to hook our feet to the railing on the floor so that the body is steady and doesn't float.

Then, we turn on the vacuum on the hose, open the hose cover, then insert the genitals into the vacuum hose and urinate. Our urine will be directly sucked by the vacuum. After urinating, clean the tube with the wet tissue provided. Reinstall the hose cap, and finally turn off the vacuum.

For defecation, there is a toilet seat which is very small in size. Just right for the butt. The toilet hole also uses vacuum technology and is covered with plastic to dispose of feces. After defecating, peel the plastic and let the vacuum machine suck up the plastic-wrapped stool. Clean the toilet with wet tissue, then turn off the vacuum.

"Remember, turn off the vacuum last, after all the processes are complete. If the order is wrong, the smell will spread everywhere," said Maezawa.

Maezawa has returned to Earth on Sunday (19/12) and landed in Kazakhstan. Are you curious, how do you pee in space? Videos of Yusaku Maezawa's experience can be watched on his Youtube
