In the past year, Honor has operated as an independent brand since splitting from Huawei. Not wanting to miss the trend, Honor has revealed that it will launch its first foldable smartphone in the near future.
Rumors about an Honor foldable phone have been circulating for a few months now. Now the rumors have been confirmed directly by Honor who shared a teaser of his first folding screen phone on Twitter and Weibo.
The teaser shows a folding screen phone in a half-open position. The name of the folding screen phone has been revealed, namely Honor Magic V, as quoted from The Verge, Friday (12/24/2021).
Honor did not provide further information about the specifications and launch date of the Magic V. Their post on Weibo only stated that the flagship folding screen phone will be launched soon.

This teaser briefly shows the hinge design and the phone body with flat sides. But it is unknown whether the Honor Magic V will carry a clamshell design or a book model like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.
But The Elec's report from July 2021 claims that the Honor foldable phone will have an 8.03-inch main screen with ultra-thin glass and a 6.45-inch external display. So it's likely that this phone will be a competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold.
This design is also used by Huawei, which is the former parent company of Honor, in the Mate X2 folding screen phone. But after Honor becomes an independent brand, it is unknown whether there will be any resemblance between the two.
Other rumors say that the Honor foldable phone will use panels made by BOE and Visionox. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is predicted to power this folding screen phone.
The Honor Magic V will have a pretty tough competition in the foldable phone market. Previously this market was dominated by Samsung and Huawei, but in the last year there have been folding screen phones made by Xiaomi and Oppo that launched in China.
