The year 2021 seems to be a glorious year for TikTok, after previously displacing Google and becoming the most popular website domain in the world in 2021. Now TikTok is again the first for the most downloaded application.
It is analytics company App Annie that estimates the number of app downloads on the App Store and Google Play Store on Christmas Day 25 December 2021.
In its report, TikTok led the Christmas Day download charts, followed by Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger and Snapchat. App Annie notes the rankings based on downloads and consumer spending combined from iOS and Android.
Meanwhile, China only uses iOS data, which may be due to the development of the Huawei HarmonyOS operating system in that country as an alternative platform for Android.
App Annie's data also contains estimated downloads from the games category for Christmas. Brain Story: Tricky Puzzle which was just released on December 21st led the most downloaded games at Christmas, followed by Poppy Rope, Subway Surfers, Free Fire, and ROBLOX.
The App Annie data also provides some sectoral breakdown by downloads by country with Oculus, HBO Max, Disney+, Veve, Ftibit, and Roblox being the apps that led the country's total downloads on December 25.
