In early 2021, Spotify announced plans to launch high-quality audio streaming over Spotify HiFi this year. This feature will offer lossless audio with CD quality.
At the Stream On event, Spotify said the high-quality streaming feature was one of the most requested by users. Currently, the audio bitrate on Spotify is stuck at 320 kbps.
Spotify HiFi will be available on all devices, including Spotify Connect-enabled speakers. The Swedish streaming giant is also working with a speaker manufacturer to make Spotify HiFi more accessible to more fans.
It was previously reported that subscribing to Spotify HiFi will cost more than Spotify Premium. But the service will also be marketed as an 'add on' to Spotify Premium.
But unfortunately the planned launch of Spotify HiFi will be postponed until 2022. It is not clear why Spotify took so long to launch this service.
However, considering that rival Apple Music has also offered lossless audio at no additional cost or free to its consumers, Spotify also seems to change its strategy so that this is suspected to be the reason for the delay of Spotify HiFi.
Reported by us from Ubergizmo, Friday (12/24/2021) Apple Music has an advantage over Spotify. Because Apple provides similar services for free while Spotify users must subscribe.
But besides Apple Music, music streaming services such as Amazon, Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz have already launched high-quality audio streaming services.
Where they also set a price for consumers to subscribe. On Amazon the subscription price is USD 14.99 per month, more expensive than the standard Amazon Music Unlimited. While Tidal which supports high-resolution audio from the start offers a high-quality plan for USD 19.99 per month.
