Terror of 'Alien' Creatures on Australian Beach

This strange animal is a lot of flocking on the beaches of Australia. Called strange because his shape is not like animals in general. Experts also warn not to approach or touch them.

The strange creature that seemed to the layman was actually a bluebottle jellyfish. More recently, they have invaded beaches from Tasmania, New South Wales, to Victoria in Australia.

Local biologist Dr Lisa-ann Gershwin said their arrival was caused by strong winds. "We see the numbers are abundant. This is because of the wind going to the coast," he said.

Is this bluebottle jellyfish dangerous to humans? Although not life-threatening, the sting is painful. So Dr. Lisa asked people not to touch it, even when it's dead, because this jellyfish can still sting.

Dr. Lisa herself has been stung by this strange animal several times in the course of research and she calls the experience very painful.

"This year they are really having fun and really terrorizing us. They are really strange alien creatures," said Dr. Lisa, quoted by the Guardian, Tuesday (25/1/2022).

This creature is actually related to jellyfish is like humans with monkeys or gorillas. Populations of bluebottles float freely on the ocean surface in great numbers.

Colonies that are dubbed as bluebottle. Surprisingly, each individual is a hermaphrodite type with both male and female reproductive organs. They stand alone for reproduction or feeding.

Dr Lisa said there was still much to learn about the biology of this strange animal. Their origin is still difficult to trace. The bluebottle is a favorite prey for animals such as Glaucus which is also known as sea lizard.
