The price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is predicted to rise because of this

Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy S22 series next month. However, the latest news from South Korea says the price of the flagship phone will rise.

A report from the Ginseng Country says that Samsung will increase the price of the trio of Galaxy S22 due to the global shortage of chips that has occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This crisis caused the prices of several important components to increase.

Such as mobile display drivers as well as screen and touch integration drivers which will increase by around 30-40% in 2021. Meanwhile, power management chips and image sensors will also increase between 10-15%.

The report says the price of the Galaxy S22 series will start at USD 899, up USD 100 from the previous generation. But some reports also indicate that Samsung will charge the same price as the Galaxy S21 series in order to compete with Apple and vendors from China.

"Competition is getting tighter in all directions and they (Samsung) may lose their share in price-sensitive emerging markets like India to Chinese vendors," said Counterpoint Research analyst Kang Min-soo, as quoted by the Korea Times, Monday (17/1/2022).

Based on Counterpoint data, Samsung is predicted to ship 290 million units of mobile phones and will still be in the first position. They are followed by Apple with 240 million units and Xiaomi with 203 million units.

Just like the previous year, Samsung is expected to launch three variants of the Galaxy S22 consisting of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. All three will be equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset, but in some countries they will get versions with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Previous leaks stated that the Galaxy S22 will come with a 6.06-inch screen, the Galaxy S22+ with a 6.55-inch screen, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a 6.8-inch screen.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a slightly different design compared to its predecessor. The design will actually be reminiscent of the Galaxy Note series with the S Pen stylus integrated into the phone body.
