Upin Ipin Grave Viral, in Indonesia or Malaysia?

TikTok social media was shocked with viral video footage showing two graves inscribed on tombstones with the names Upin and Ipin.

As we know Upin and Ipin are two children's characters from a cartoon series from Malaysia which are also popular in many countries including Indonesia.

Starting from uploading a video from the TikTok account @ABI_ALONK_3110, he highlighted the two graves of Ipin and Upin. The tombstone says that Upin died first on August 6, 1965 and then Upin on April 2, 1996.

"Finally slept well. No wonder it's never big, it turns out the story is based on Opah's imagination 10 years ago," wrote the account.

The post has been played more than 36.9 million times and has 3.9 million likes and 82 thousand comments. Netizens were also confused and many speculated about the story of Ipin and Upin whether it was real or just fictional until the truth of the two locations mentioned above.

"Sorry, guys, it's so crowded, this video is easy to get from a friend who is also a Malaysian. He said this was based on a story from a grandmother there that was revealed in animation," wrote the uploader.

Interestingly, after this video went viral, it seemed as if there was a response from another video uploaded from the TikTok account @putrahits03 which said that the location of Upin and Ipin's tombs was in Palu City, Indonesia.

"The tombs of Upin and Ipin are in Palu, not Malaysia," he wrote in the video.

"Sorry, who asked which Palu area, the question is, I got it from a friend, he said, not in Malaysia but in Palu later if there is an answer from my new friend," he wrote again.

And from the video footage, it can be seen that several girls recorded the two graves of Upin and Ipin and from the voice described said that these graves were in Palu.

"This is said to be viral, the one who said it was from Malaysia in Palu, guys, not in Malaysia," said one of the women from the video.

Unfortunately, the exact location is not explained. This video has been viewed up to 7 million and got 509 thousand likes with 10 thousand more comments. In fact, some of these comments confirm that the location of the tomb is in Indonesia.

Even so, there are also those who suspect that it is a fake tomb, aka samples of grave stones that are indeed being sold. Usually, sellers of tombstones and gravestones do have samples of the products they sell. The reason is, there is no land in the middle of the gravestone like in general a real grave. Well, here are some other netizen comments:

"Is Pulu Pulu inspired by Palu," wrote @pnggisxxx.

"That's right, in Palu. The location of the grave is in the Talisen village, Central Sulawesi island, my birthplace," wrote @ericksxxx.

"It turns out that Upin Ipin is an Indonesian," wrote @itsme_xxx.

"My friend said that the first upin ipin maker in Indonesia didn't sell and was sold to malay, it's selling well and until now, he said it was made for bandung people," wrote @ekadwiyanxxx.

"Is this really true, usually when someone dies on a tombstone there is a bin written on it. For example, mail bin ismail. It's just Upin, not using bin," wrote @suci.salxxx.

"I who live in Palu just found out that Upin Ipin's grave is in my own village," wrote @deogantxxx.
