Watch out! There Are Illegal Streaming Apps on iOS

FlickType app developer Kosta Eleftheriou has warned iPhone and iPad users against a number of fraudulent streaming apps on the App Store.

Eleftheriou points out that a number of apps claiming to be official streaming service providers use movie trailers and photo filters to trick their victims.

This application also invites users to enter the code and share the application with their friends to unlock more features, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Tuesday (4/1/2022).

Not only that, this application also charges fees for premium services that are processed in the App Store. This means that Apple also receives revenue from a 15-30% discount obtained by this fraudulent application.

Strangely, according to Eleftheriou, this fraudulent application was left for months on the App Store even though it continued to receive negative reviews which also stated that the service offered was illegal.

Ads promoting the app continue to circulate, using influencers on social media who have millions of followers.

"Despite Apple's failure to keep the App Store secure, this app has been downloaded more than two million times and is currently earning $16,000 per day or about $6 million per year," Eleftheriou said.

This weakness in App Store security was also acknowledged by Eric Friedman, boss of the Fraud Engineering Algorithms and Risk (FEAR) unit at Apple, whose job it is to maintain the security of the App Store. He analogized this security system as carrying a plastic knife into battle with a firearm.

In fact, he called the application screening process before entering the App Store just like a beautiful woman greeting tourists at a Hawaii airport, not like a drug sniffer dog.

For information, Eleftheriou has previously commented on the existence of similar applications in the App Store. He also arguably still holds a grudge against Apple, and has even used Apple for stealing the design of the FlickType application that he made for the Apple Watch.
