Former Google boss: America's 5G lags far behind China

Former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, criticized the United States government for the development of 5G networks in the country. According to him, the government has neglected so that America is far behind, especially with China.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal with Harvard professor Graham Allison, the US is currently lagging behind in almost all dimensions of 5G at a time when countries like China continue to accelerate. They advised the US government to make 5G a top priority.

Because if not, China will have a 5G future that will be very useful. As quoted by us from the Independent, 5G will be crucial in industry and the military.

"True 5G speeds will lead to breakthroughs in autonomous vehicles, virtual reality applications such as the metaverse and other undiscovered areas," Eric wrote.

"5G-enabled applications will benefit the country's intelligence agencies and enhance military capabilities," they added.

They noted that China's 5G speeds have surpassed the US by a considerable distance, at 299 Mbps compared to 93.73 Mbps. This should be a concern in itself.

Even though the US has already imposed heavy sanctions on Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications and technology giant, Huawei still dominates the market including its cutting-edge 5G technology. In other words, Huawei is not too affected even though it is prevented from using technology from the US.

"The US's pathetic performance in the 5G race is a sign of the country's greater failure to confront China in strategically important technologies. China has also surpassed the US in high-tech manufacturing, green energy and many artificial intelligence applications," Eric said.
