Russian scientists deliver open letter condemning attack on Ukraine

Russian scientists and science journalists take a stand on Russia's attack on Ukraine. They expressed a strong protest against this hostile attitude and conveyed it in an open letter.

"We, Russian scientists and scientific journalists, express our strong protest against the hostilities launched by our country's armed forces on the territory of Ukraine. This fatal step caused enormous human losses and undermined the foundations of the already established international security system. The responsibility for waging a new war in Europe is completely in the hands of Russia," they said in their letter, as quoted by Eureporter, Saturday (26/2/2022).

They say, there is no rational justification for this war. It is clear that Ukraine does not pose a threat to Russia's security, so the war against this country is seen as unfair and senseless.

"Ukraine has been and will continue to be a country close to us. Many of us have relatives, friends and scientific colleagues living in Ukraine. Our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought together against Nazism. Giving up war for the geopolitical ambitions of the leadership of the Russian Federation , fueled by dubious historiosophical fantasies, is a cynical betrayal of their memory," the scientists wrote.

With the onset of war, scientists will no longer be able to carry out their normal duties. After all, conducting scientific research is impossible without the full cooperation of colleagues from other countries.

The isolation of Russia from the world, according to scientists, meant a further cultural and technological degradation of their country without any positive prospects at all. A war with Ukraine will have far-reaching implications.

"It is bittersweet to realize that our country, which made a decisive contribution to the victory over Nazism, has now become the instigator of a new war on the European continent. We demand an immediate cessation of all military operations directed against Ukraine. We demand respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. . We demand peace. Let's promote science, not war!" close them.
