Spotify Abandoned by Users and Creators Over Anti-Vaccine Podcasts

The music streaming platform Spotify is home to many singers, artists and podcasters. But unfortunately Spotify is currently facing a big problem.

This Swedish company was boycotted by a number of musicians and even many users who wanted to stop subscribing to Spotify.

Starting with musician Neil Young, he said that he wanted all of his music content to be removed from Spotify. This was triggered by Joe Rogan's podcast content on Spotify. This step was also followed by singer Joni Mitchel. Currently, Young has more than 6 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform. Mitchell has 3.7 million monthly listeners.

The Joe Rogan Experience is Spotify's most popular podcast in 2021. The program has been a Spotify exclusive since 2020 when Joe Rogan signed a multi-year exclusive licensing deal worth more than $100 million.

Previously, Joe Rogan had been exposed to the corona virus. It was confirmed in September 2021 or months after he 'neglected' the usefulness of the vaccine.

In April 2021, he told listeners that if a 21-year-old asked him if he needed to get the Covid-19 vaccine or not, he would advise against vaccinating.

That statement became controversial, Spotify was also accused of playing a role in the spread of Covid-19 misinformation on the streaming platform. As a result of the boycott, Spotify was inundated with many user requests for cancellation of subscriptions.

However, according to Tristan Snell of MainStreet Law, Spotify's system is unable to handle user requests to unsubscribe.

"Spotify is no longer letting people cancel subscriptions. Their customer service system is completely overwhelmed. People asking to cancel are told they can't. It's likely that Spotify will allow cancellations again at some point once their system isn't too flooded." he said as quoted from Ubergizmo.

Some users claim that they have successfully canceled their Spotify subscription, but others claim that the website is too slow or unresponsive to their requests.
