Google will reportedly be adding a new feature soon to the Android 13 beta testing. This feature called 'Dark theme at bedtime' allows users to set a schedule to activate the dark theme automatically before bedtime.
This sleep time is based on the settings entered into the Digital Wellbeing app. By enabling this dark theme the user will see white text on a black background.
This feature is expected to help users using phones that may be in low-light rooms so as not to damage their eyes by using a bright theme.
The dark theme can also save battery life on smartphone devices that use AMOLED screens. Because AMOLED screens do not require the use of a backlight.
When the user activates dark mode, a large number of pixels on the screen are turned off to make the back screen black. Turned off pixels don't drain the battery thus saving battery life.
This is why on some phones, enabling the battery saver feature will automatically enable Dark theme.
Reported by us from PhoneArena, Tuesday (22/3/2022) the appearance of this feature can be activated by going to Settings > Appearance and switching to Dark theme.
Then at the bottom there is a schedule option where users can set the desired time from activating the Dark theme from sunset to sunrise, or activating the Dark theme at bedtime.
If you're used to falling asleep with your phone in your hand while using apps, activating the Dark theme can prevent users from waking up to a glowing screen that dazzles against a bright white background.
Instead, with the Dark theme enabled, the background will be black with white text which is less distracting to the eye.
