Samsung opens mobile phone shop in India, all female employees

In a bid to improve gender equality, Samsung announced that it has opened its first mobile phone shop in India, where all employees are female.

The move coincides with the celebration of International Women's Day 2022 as well as part of the #PoweringDigitalIndia initiative.

The new mobile phone shop is in Ahmedabad and is aimed at shoring up Samsung's market share in the sub-continent by promoting the power of Indian women.

The new Samsung Smart Cafe offers customers a unique shopping experience with an all-female staff.

Store managers, consultants and other staff have received training on the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem as well as other specialized skills including accounting, inventory management and customer service.

Support for staff comes in the form of the Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Women in Samsung Electronics (WISE) to help women grow both professionally and in their personal lives.

"Samsung is excited to set up India's first women-only mobile phone store and is confident about the new possibilities presented by the incredible team of Samsung women who are part of the initiative," said Ken Kang, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia.

"The mobile store fits perfectly with Samsung's core values of people, excellence and shared prosperity. Samsung is focused on increasing the number of women in its workplace."

Samsung hopes to nurture the next generation of female leaders across the company through various gender-friendly programs.
