As the second richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos is of course free to buy luxury homes wherever he wants. But his newest property on the beach in Hawaii is horrific because it is prone to flooding and is in danger of drowning in the future.
The property is located on the island of Maui, Hawaii, on the shores of La Perouse Bay. The location itself is a bit remote and far from downtown Kahului which is the largest city on Maui.
The price of the new property purchased by Bezos reached USD 78 million . With assets reaching USD 184.5 billion according to Forbes data, the property price is certainly relatively cheap for the founder of Amazon.
No kidding, the property has an area of 14 acres and consists of several buildings. There is a 4,500 sq ft main house building which has three bedrooms and three bathrooms as well as a separate 1,700 sq ft guest house building.
The main house has an outdoor kitchen with beach views and a green area around the house. Don't miss the 700-foot spherical swimming pool surrounded by trees and beach sand.
With his new property, Bezos has become 'neighbors' with several tech billionaires who also own homes in Hawaii. Like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg who owns properties worth hundreds of millions of dollars on Kauai Island
Despite being surrounded by beautiful landscapes and having luxurious amenities, the secluded area of Bezos' house was a bit eerie. Due to its position on the beach, this property is in danger of sinking due to rising sea levels.
The Hawaiian government has also warned of the threat of major flooding in various areas. "Severe flooding may render 10,441 hectares of land unusable and 6,500 structures projected to be at risk due to rising sea levels," they wrote on their official website, as quoted by The Daily Mail, Thursday (7/4/2022).
"13 miles of beaches in the state have already been lost, including 10% of O'ahu's coast due to coastal erosion. 70% of beaches across the state are currently under threat," they added.
In addition to the threat of flooding, Bezos's property is also surrounded by land of lava from a volcanic eruption. The area around the property is also close to Mount Haleakala, which is expected to erupt in 500 years.
