As one of the richest people in the world, Mark Zuckerberg can certainly be called the real crazy rich. The founder and CEO of Meta also has a unique way of shopping and doesn't really show off his wealth.
Zuckerberg first became a billionaire at the age of 23, after Facebook was listed on the stock exchange. Now he is the 13th richest person in the world according to Forbes data, with a total wealth of USD 82.7 billion.
With that much wealth, Zuckerberg can certainly buy whatever he wants. But the 37-year-old never actually spent his money on clothes or jewelry.
In recent years, Zuckerberg has been seen using ordinary sedans such as the Acura TSX, Honda, and Volkswagen. But according to the South China Morning Post, Zuckerberg owns one luxury sports car, the $1.4 million Pagani Huayra.
Much of Zuckerberg's wealth has been devoted to buying property and land. With his wife Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg owns a house in Palo Alto, California for USD 7 million which he bought in May 2011. He then spent more than USD 43 million to buy the four houses that surround his residence in Palo Alto.
In 2014, Zuckerberg purchased two 304-acre properties on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. The USD 100 million property includes two separate sections: Kahu'aina Plantation, a 144-hectare former sugarcane plantation, and Pila'a Beach, a 159-hectare property with white sand beaches.
Three years later he bought 36 hectares of land on the island for more than USD 45 million. At the end of 2021, Zuckerberg again bought land on the island of Kauai covering an area of 40 hectares for a value of USD 17 million. In total, Zuckerberg owns 607 hectares of land in Hawaii.
Zuckerberg also has two adjacent private residences on the outskirts of Lake Tahoe, namely the Brushwood Estate with an area of 494 m2 and the Carousel Estate which is located on an area of 1.4 hectares. He bought the property for USD 59 million in 2018, as quoted by the International Business Times, Wednesday (6/4/2022).
As the leader of a company as big as Meta, Zuckerberg also has security costs that are not small. In 2020, Meta is known to spend USD 23.4 million for the personal safety of Zuckerberg and his family.
Zuckerberg and his wife are also known as billionaires who do a lot of charity. In 2015, he and his wife launched the charitable foundation Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Through this organization, Zuckerberg is committed to donating 99% of the Facebook shares he owns.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has donated more than $100 million, including $11.5 million to help health agencies, organizations and schools in the Bay Area, and $1.5 million to support local businesses.
