Tips for Making Underwater Photos Using a Safe and Beautiful Cellphone

Along with the development of technology, photographing in the water is no longer necessary to use a special camera. Because, now there are phones that can do it.

However, there are several things that must be considered, such as safety when diving, shooting techniques in the water, to knowing the limitations on cellphones. So, in order to take pictures underwater using a cellphone safely and the results are satisfactory, consider the following explanation.

Know the Limits on Mobile

It should be noted that a cellphone that has water resistance does not mean that the cellphone can be taken into the water just like that. Usually there is a certain depth and duration that determines how long the phone is safe to use in the water.

Water-resistant phones are usually IP certified, namely Ingress Protection with the most common ones being IP67 and IP68. The number in front of the IP indicates that the device has protection from dust particles.

Then the numbers 7 and 8 are indicators of how far the phone has resistance to water absorption. For IP67, it means that the phone can be submerged up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. While IP68 can be invited to dive up to 1.5 -2 meters for 30 minutes.

Lighting Check

Just like the general theory in taking photos or videos, the first thing to pay attention to is the lighting and how the water conditions will distort it. Sunlight, clouds, and shadows will all have an interesting effect on the light below the water's surface.

Also pay attention to the condition of the water, is it clear or cloudy. If the water is clear, it will certainly be continuous with the results of taking quality pictures. On the other hand, in cloudy water, the image will not be as good as when the photo is in clear water.

Don't forget to experiment with using the effects that exist on your cellphone, such as the bokeh effect, the ultra wide camera to other features such as optical image stabilization (OIS) which makes capturing underwater video content more stable even when you're moving.

Play Distance

Some cellphones currently have more than one camera, each of which has different features, ranging from wide angle cameras, telephoto, to zoom. This can be used to get images from different angles.

If it's not enough, then you can move more in taking pictures to get cool results. Moreover, taking pictures underwater can be quite difficult, so try playing with several angles to get 1 to 3 good pictures.

Creative in Editing

After taking pictures in the water, the next step is to be a little creative in the image editing process. There are several photo editing applications, either by default on your phone or by downloading other applications.

This editing process requires the creativity of each photographer. In addition to editing manually, some applications also provide special presets to make photos look more unique and creative.
