Samsung and Oppo collaborate to make chips to fight Apple

Samsung and Oppo plan to collaborate on a special chip. The goal is to fight against Apple's chipsets installed in iPhones.

Oppo has made a self-developed image signal chip. The chip, named Mariana X, has been installed on the Oppo Find X5.

This chip adopts DSA's new architecture and uses TSMC's 6nm process technology. Mariana X can perform 18 trillion AI calculations per second, surpassing the 15.8Tops computing power of Apple's A15 chip. So to say It is the top mobile NPU chip in the world today.

Previously, the boss of Samsung TM Roh said that his party would develop a unique chip for the Galaxy series model. According to speculation, the reason for developing this new chip is because the performance of the Exynos 2200 is poor. Because the chip has GPS problems and poor cooling performance.

Exynos itself is a brand of processors from Samsung that use the ARM architecture. Since its launch in February 2011, this chip is mostly installed in Samsung smartphones.

The previous Exynos series had relatively good performance, but in recent years the Exynos performance has been considered unsatisfactory. That's why the gap between Samsung, MediaTek and Qualcomm is getting wider, according to Gizchina.

Hopefully, the collaboration between Samsung and Oppo is able to give birth to a capable chipset. So that it can really compete with the capabilities of the Apple chipset.
