The Story of the Struggle of Natasha Gunther, The Woman Who Lived Her Life with Half a Skull

 


There is a sad story of a martial arts instructor named Natasha Alyena Gunther. He was forced to live his life by removing half the skull in his head. His goal was to stop the sinus infection spreading around his brain.

She shared the story of Natasha Gunther battling a sinus infection via a video on TikTok, @natasha_gunther.


Throughout 2021, he had six sinus infections. The drugs he was taking did not help him at all.


"I often vomit and have terrible migraines," he said.


On December 12, 2021, his parents ordered him to do a CT scan. The results showed that he had to undergo a craniotomy, which is a brain surgery process by opening or making a hole in the skull. The goal is to see and treat the various problems that occur in it.


That same night, Natasha immediately underwent her first brain surgery.


"I had a craniotomy. The doctor removed my bone, because I had a large number of strep and sinus infections. Nine millimeters of my brain had to be moved to the right side," he explained.


Natasha returned for surgery on December 23, 2021. She underwent a craniectomy to remove 12 to 14 cm of the skull on her head.


It aims to clean the sinuses that have been exposed to the head. He was hospitalized for five weeks.




Natasha was forced to live life with half a head. He also wears a special helmet to protect his head.


While waiting for April or May to get her skull back, Natasha had to recover her energy. Because he lost a lot of movement in the legs, arms and other parts.


“I do speech therapy twice a week. Apart from that, I also do physical therapy with the help of my boyfriend. Because he is a personal trainer,” he said.



Through her video, Natasha gives her followers an understanding so they don't underestimate sinuses. He advised to prevent sinus disease as early as possible and treat it appropriately.


“If you continue to have sinus infections, immediately consult an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist. Don't rely on general practitioners alone. So you can avoid an incident like what I'm experiencing now," he said.
