There is a Russian-Ukrainian war, sales of Samsung and Apple cellphones increase

Due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in China, mobile phone shipments during the first quarter of 2022 declined. Even so, Samsung and Apple recorded an increase in sales.

This is summarized in a recent report from research firm Canalys. They recorded HP shipments during the January to March period dipped 11%.

Samsung is still crowned as the king of the world's mobile phones in Q1 2022. The South Korean tech giant has a 24% market share, up from 22% from the same period the previous year.

"Samsung is boosting production of the popular A series to compete aggressively in the lower-middle segment while refreshing its 2022 portfolio, including its flagship Galaxy S22 series," said Sanyam Chaurasia, Analyst at Canalys.

The release of the iPhone 13 series at the end of the year has an impact on a 3% increase for Apple compared to Q1 2021. Now the market share of the company led by Tim Cook has increased to 18% from 15%.

"While the iPhone 13 series continues to meet consumer demand, the new iPhone SE launched in March is an important mid-range volume driver for Apple. At the same price point as its predecessor, it offers an upgraded chipset and improved battery performance and adds 5G connectivity. demanded by the channel operator," explained Chaurasia.

Xiaomi is in third place with a 13% market share, down 1% from the first quarter of last year. Canalys noted that the Redmi Note series contributed greatly to this achievement, because the sales performance of the cellphone was strong from January to March.

Oppo has a 10% market share, down from 11%. Making it in fourth position. Meanwhile, Vivo is in fifth place with a market share of 8% from the previous 10%.

In its report, Canalys also provided fresh air about the scarcity of components that had a major impact on the HP market. "The good news is that painful component shortages may be improving faster than expected, which will certainly help ease cost pressures," said Nicole Peng, VP Mobility at Canalys.
