Apple Rigged iPhone 14 Component Suppliers

BOE, a supplier of display components to Apple, is predicted to lose orders for 30 million new screens from Apple for the iPhone 14.

The reason is that the BOE was caught cheating Apple while supplying screens for the iPhone 13 to increase profits. In October 2021, BOE received an order from Apple for the iPhone 13 screen.

BOE gets a share to supply 20% of the iPhone 13's 6.1 screen while the rest is supplied by Samsung.

But they were caught changing the circuit width for the transistors in the iPhone 13 display, which of course was done without Apple's permission. As a result, Apple immediately terminated its contract with the BOE.

Now, the BOE cheating has a long impact because Apple is reportedly not going to order screens for the iPhone 14 to BOE. A BOE executive went to Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, United States to explain the incident, and admitted that he no longer received orders for the iPhone 14 OLED screen.

Although the iPhone 14 is expected to be released next fall, the production of the screen components may start in June, as quoted by The Verge, Monday (23/5/2022).

To replace BOE, Apple is said to be splitting orders for 30 million screen panels to LG Display and Samsung Display. Samsung is likely to produce 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens for the iPhone 14 Pro, while LG will receive an order for a 6.7-inch screen for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

BOE previously only produced screens for refurbished iPhones or recycled ones. But Apple gave the Chinese manufacturer an opportunity to supply iPhone 12 screens in 2020, only that initially the BOE screen failed to meet Apple's quality tests.

But apart from Apple, BOE is a supplier of OLED screens to many manufacturers from China, such as Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, and Vivo.
