2 Types of iPhone Can't Use WhatsApp After October 24, 2022

WhatsApp will be discontinuing its support for some iOS devices in the near future. Even older iPhone users are threatened with not being able to use WhatsApp after the support is revoked.

WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 after October 24, 2022. Users who still want to use WhatsApp after that date are encouraged to update their operating system to iOS 12.

"Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp," wrote a pop-up message that appeared in the WhatsApp application, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Monday (23/5/2022).

"WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after October 24, 2022. Please go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest version of iOS," he continued.

Currently, iOS 11 devices that can be updated to iOS 12 are iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S. This means that these three iPhones must be updated to iOS 12 if they still want to use WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, there are two iPhones that run iOS 10 and iOS 11 but cannot be updated to iOS 12, namely the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. This means that these two iPhones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp after October 24, 2022.

On the Help Center page, WhatsApp has actually explained that iPhone users must be running iOS 12 or later to continue using WhatsApp. Support for Android is also limited to Android 4.1 or later.

The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are almost 10 years old, so it's only natural that support for these two phones is starting to stop. Apple itself has also stopped supporting software and security updates for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c for a long time.
