British Embassy Jakarta Instagram Attacked Due to LBGT Flag

The British Embassy's move to fly the LGBT rainbow flag has drawn criticism. Their Instagram account was invaded by Indonesian netizens.

Since the installation of the rainbow flag, the British Embassy has been protested by various elements of society in Indonesia. The reaction of Indonesian netizens also strongly protested.

As a result, the British Embassy's Instagram account, @ukinindonesia, was raided by Indonesian netizens. This rainbow flag post has 2,074 comments.

Apart from being supportive, many Indonesian netizens also protested the raising of the rainbow flag. Indonesian netizens asked the British Embassy to respect the values and norms that exist in Indonesia.

Here are some of their comments on Instagram:

"Where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld!" said @edhonaufa***.

"God created Adam and Eve, not Ragil and Bambang ," quipped @ariocahyagemi***.

"This's Indonesia, not UK!" protest @mr.buddy***.

"That flag shouldn't raise in our land, please respect us🙌," criticized @wira_gha***.

Previously, the British Embassy flew the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rainbow flag. This is to commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) which falls on May 17, 2022.

The installation of this rainbow flag was announced on the British Embassy's official Instagram account on 19 May 2022. However, this flag was taken down on Saturday (21/5/2022) afternoon in our monitoring.

Apparently, the rainbow flag is no longer on the side of the British Union Jack flag. Whereas previously, on May 17, 2022, the LGBT flag had flown alongside the British flag.

The rainbow LGBT flag has been replaced with the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag, this is a form of British support for Ukraine, which is currently at war with Russia. Meanwhile, the British Flag remained flying beside him.
