Canada Bans Huawei And ZTE 5G Devices

Canada has become another country that has banned 5G equipment from Huawei and ZTE from being used in the country. Steps were taken to follow their Five Eyes allies, namely the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom to ensure the security of the country's telecommunications network from being spied on by China.

Telecommunication companies that have used 5G equipment of both companies will have to throw it away by June 2024 without any compensation from the government. 4G equipment will have to be discarded by the end of 2027.

The decision will make relations between Canada and China even more strained after Canada helped the United States arrest Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in 2018. He was only released in September 2021 after signing a deferred prosecution agreement agreement with U.S. prosecutors. He claimed responsibility for misinterpreting Huawei's business dealings in Iran.
