Prism+ Nomad 16 Review-Simplify Productivity Everywhere

The use of secondary screens to add display space that was previously popular among desktop users is now seen to be increasingly popular among laptop users who on average feel that a small screen alone is not enough to maximize their productivity or leisure activities.

Recently, we can see some computer brands start introducing secondary screen products specifically for laptops such as ASUS, Lenovo and so on, and now, Prism+, a display maker brand from Singapore also offers their own secondary screen product called Prism+ Nomad 16.

Starting with the design and specifications of this Prism+ Nomad 16 screen display, it uses a 15.6 -inch IPS panel and comes with Full HD resolution with a refresh rate of 60Hz. In terms of color processing, this screen display comes with support for processing 105% of the sRGB color gamut, making it an ideal display for graphics or video professionals who care about color accuracy.

In terms of connectivity, the Nomad 16 display comes with three plugs, including two USB-C plugs for power connection use as well as connection to devices, as well as a Mini HDMI plug for connection to another device.

The power button of this screen display is located at the top which is also used to activate the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu of this display, and two physical buttons on the side are used to scroll the menu, and can be used to increase and decrease the audio volume.

Speaking of audio, the Prism+ Nomad 16 also comes with built -in speakers. In our experience using this screen display, it was seen to take over the audio staging from the laptop and would play audio from the display.

To facilitate the use of this screen display, the Prism+ Nomad 16 is also offered along with several additional accessories, including a power adapter, USB-C cable and even a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable for easy connection to the laptop.

Prism+ also gives users a polycarbonate frame accessory that can be used not only to cover this display when not in use, but also to uphold this display when it is in use.

Users can choose to erect this screen display from several angles, and it’s as easy as modifying part of the cover when it’s folded back.

As a secondary display accessory, I can say that it is an easy accessory to carry anywhere especially when matched together with a thin and lightweight laptop.

User Experience

The Prism+ Nomad 16 secondary display comes with the aim of giving users an easy way to extend their screen display easily and quickly. After installing the cover frame on this screen display, users only need to connect one USB-C cable to the supplied power adapter, and use a second USB-C cable or Mini HDMI cable to connect this display to the laptop.

When I use this display for the first time, it seems to take some time to determine which connection is used to connect to your computer.

Once it’s done, the connection will be set up automatically, and you can then start to modify the secondary display location to your liking.

As mentioned before, the Prism+ Nomad 16 display power button can be used for the purpose of closing the display, or to access the built -in OSD software. The audio volume buttons can also be used to modify various types of settings contained in the OSD.

These include display modes, color temperatures, device inputs and so on. Speaking of device input, users can also connect two devices to this Prism+ Nomad 16 display and use the OSD menu to change the device output.

One issue you may encounter with this is the problem of confusing cables because in terms of power connections as well as devices, they all require cables which will likely cause the table surface to look unmanageable.

In the course of the few weeks I had the opportunity to use this Nomad 16 display, I quite liked its offering as a secondary display to my laptop. Its not -so -large size allows me to fit it in my desk space without moving so many things.

Connecting this display to devices like laptops as well as smart devices is also a very simple thing. Support options for both USB-C as well as Mini HDMI which gives users options on how they want to connect their device to this screen display.

Cable care is also something that will need to be emphasized especially if you want to connect two devices to this display at once. As I said earlier, the issue of tangled cables is almost certain, especially when at least two cables will be used to connect this device to the power supply as well as the device.

Display Quality

As a secondary display, I use the “gaming” mode for my daily use because of its higher brightness compared to other modes. In terms of the sharpness of the text and pictures, I can say that there is no problem when I use this display to read articles or press releases for daily work, and the color processing on the pictures also looks bright and sharp.

Even so, one drawback present on this screen display is that it comes with a rather limited viewing angle. This isn’t a problem when you’re the only one using it, but if this display isn’t placed facing the viewer, the issue of color scattering will be quite obvious.

Previously I also said that the Prism+ Nomad 16 secondary display also comes with built -in speakers. While this feature can be seen as a good thing, unfortunately the audio quality on those speakers is not very good, and most likely you will switch back your audio output to a laptop speaker or something else.

Watching videos using this Prism+ Nomad 16 display is also for me a normal experience. Although Prism+ promotes this Nomad 16 screen display comes with 105 percent sRGB color gamut color processing capability, my colleagues and I think that video quality processing through this screen display is not very different from other IPS or LCD screen displays.

Closing

At RM999, this Prism+ Nomad 16 I can say is a secondary display that is well worth buying if you need an extra panel to take anywhere with you.

It’s easy to install, and for me, the most notable drawback to this panel is that it requires two cables and a power adapter to power it, which isn’t a serious issue, especially if you have accessories like GaN power adapters that can be used to power more than two devices at once.

Easy to bring anywhere

Can be installed on laptops as well as smart devices

The display quality is unsatisfactory at different viewing angles
