Celcom, Digi, Maxis And U Mobile Want Majority Hold On DNB

The four largest telecommunications companies in Malaysia, namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile are now reported to want a majority stake in Digital Nasional Berhad.

In addition, these four telcos would like to look back at the pricing structure as well as the network access plans offered by DNB.

Previously, the government offered a stake of up to 70% in DNB-but it was split between telcos. It is said around 9 firms will join this 70% breakdown - leading to four major telcos having only a minority stake.

It is said all four companies are not interested in minority holdings-and they find it difficult to add value as shareholders.

Previously, the four companies asked for a second firm to be set up to compete with DNB for 5G infrastructure offerings in Malaysia. But, the government has changed the matter, and offered a stake in DNB companies of up to 70%-but split between telcos.

These four telecommunications companies also do not offer 5G services at this time. Only Yes has been offering 5G services since December 2021, while Telekom Malaysia, which has also signed an agreement, is still silent without any introduction at this time.
