The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica has been leaked since last year, after Leica was no longer used on Huawei devices. But to this day, there are still no Xiaomi devices that use camera technology from Leica.
After Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, which is a device that focuses on photography - many expect this Leica to be included in its successor - the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra camera design was leaked a few weeks ago showing the Leica logo on the camera hump.
Lastly, it is already official. Xiaomi is seen to have made a long -term deal with Leica. There is no confirmation as to whether it is limited to Xiaomi only or will also be used on Redmi. What is for sure, Xiaomi’s first device with a Leica camera will be launched next July.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the collaboration is for a combination of optical design and technological innovation. If what we saw on the previous leaked image is true, this first Xiaomi and Leica device is probably the Xiaomi 12 Ultra which is rumored to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip.
