Only TM And YTL Sign DNB Equity Agreement So Far

The introduction of 5G networks in Malaysia is quite problematic with three major telecommunications companies still refusing to use networks managed by Digital Nasional Berhad. Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sir Annuar Musa said so far only two telecommunications companies, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications, had signed the Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) equity agreement so far.

He now hopes that other telcos will expedite the finalization of the agreement with DNB before the June 30 deadline. After that date any telcos that have not taken their equity will be left as DNB will proceed with the launch of 5G as planned.

In early April last year Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile made an official announcement, stating they were still in the discussion stage and had not yet agreed to the RAO (Reference Access Offer) that had been issued by DNB.

Discussions are still underway, and telecommunication companies are also in discussions with MCMC to get a number of full explanations related to some of the matters published.

The telecommunication company also stated that the majority of the matters that had been raised during the previous discussions with SKMM and DNB had not been improved or corrected in this new issue document.

Telecommunication companies also said the newly issued RAO would not enable the provision of affordable and quality 5G networks to the people and businesses in Malaysia, apart from curbing the introduction of 5G services.
