The Wikimedia Foundation, the body behind Wikipedia has now announced they will stop accepting donations in the form of cryptocurrencies. With this change as well, they will close their Bitpay accounts, thus avoiding any contributions in the form of cryptocurrencies.
This step was taken by the Wikimedia Foundation after going through the voting process, and several things made them reject the use of cryptocurrency.
Among them are those related to the implications of cryptocurrency on the environment, as well as the risk of fraud due to cryptocurrency.
Previously, the Wikimedia Foundation has received donations in the form of cryptocurrencies since 2014.
