Tensions between Russia and NATO, especially with the United States and Britain are getting higher. Moreover, Russia's neighbor, Finland, which was originally a neutral country, has seriously shown its desire to join NATO. The threat of war with the latest technological weapons is increasingly lurking.
If Finland renounces its status as a neutral country, Russia admits it feels threatened. There are even Russian officials who have stated that they will deploy hypersonic missiles such as the Sarmat which is also dubbed Satan 2 or a demonic missile which is claimed to be high in technology and has a nuclear warhead.
The Kremlin stated that it would be a mistake for Finland to join NATO because Russia had no intention of harming them.
"Such a change in Finland's foreign policy will have a negative impact on the relations between Russia and Finland, which were built on the spirit of good neighbors and partnership over many years," the Kremlin said.
But the attack on Ukraine might make Finland feel uncomfortable being neighbors with Russia so they want to join NATO. Regarding this, Aleksey Zhuravlyov of the Russian defense committee and one of Putin's confidants, made a strong statement.
He considered Finland could be a threat to Russia and also the mastermind, the United States. "If the United States threatens our country, here is a Sarmat missile for you and there will be nuclear ashes on your side if you think Russia should not exist," he said.
"And Finland said that this missile is for America. Well, you can line up too," he added, as quoted by the New York Post.
"We can fire the Sarmat from Siberia and even reach the UK. If we launch it from Kaliningrad, the hypersonic speed is 200 seconds (to the UK)," he threatened.
Then, according to him, Finland can also be shot with Kinzhal missiles which can reach the country in only about 20 seconds. "Or even 10 seconds," he said.
Of course that bluff could be just a war of nerves because the US and Britain also have a lot of nuclear weapons. Recently, Russia claimed to have successfully tested the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This weapon is said to be very terrible.
In western countries, the RS-28 Sarmat missile is sometimes called the Satan II or the devil missile. The Sarmat is an intercontinental nuclear-capable missile that is claimed to be able to hit targets anywhere.
"The Sarmat is the most powerful missile that has the highest range in the world and will significantly increase the capabilities of our country's nuclear strategic forces," the Russian Defense Ministry said, quoted by ABC News.
Sarmat is said to be operational this year as well. This missile is said to be able to reach targets up to a distance of 18,000 kilometers and a maximum speed of 25,000 kilometers per hour.
Meanwhile, it weighs 208 metric tons, is 35.5 meters long and has a diameter of 3 meters. The design is said to make the Sarmat difficult to be tracked by radar.
Russia is shortening the time interval when a missile can be tracked by satellites, for example by the United States' Space Based Infrared System. The technology reportedly makes the movement of the Sarmat missile difficult to anticipate.
