Asking Employees to Work Or Fired, Elon Musk Is Criticized

Elon Musk asked Tesla employees to return to the office, aka work from office (WFO), and no longer WFH like during the Corona pandemic. It made Elon get quite a lot of criticism.

"Those who want to work remotely must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean *minimum*) 40 hours per week or leave Tesla. This is less than what we ask of factory employees," Elon said.

Indeed, Elon's orders are quite extreme and there is no tolerance for employees. With a minimum WFO of 40 hours per week, that means employees are logged in as usual with 5 working days.

One of the critics of Elon Musk's policies is Atlassian software company CEO Scott Farquhar. This company is indeed the most flexible after the pandemic, where employees are allowed to WFH permanently.

This is seen as an attractive benefit for employees and to get the best talent both locally and globally. Scott also considered Elon Musk's request for WFO to feel old school like the 1950s. In fact, for him, WFH has many benefits.

"This is how we will work in the future. Very distributed, very flexible. Yes, at the moment it is not perfect, but we are experimenting to make it good," he tweeted.

"Last year alone, 42% of the new employees we recruited globally lived two hours or more from the office. There are many talents around the world, not just those whose homes are near the office," he explained.

He even opened vacancies for Tesla employees who wanted to remain WFH. "Welcome Tesla friends, we are Atlassian and we work from anywhere. Sign up now," the Australia-based company wrote.
