The government is developing guidelines on the use of micromobility vehicles in Malaysia, and several issues are being looked into, including speed limits.
It is currently being refined, whereby a speed limit not exceeding 25 km/h (kilometers per hour) may be set for micromobility vehicles.
Today, there are several micromobility vehicles such as electric scooters that can reach speeds of up to 50km/h. With these new guidelines, the speed of the vehicle may be limited to only 25km/h at the maximum level.
Several other guidelines will also be finalized, before being presented to the Ministry of Transport, as well as the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, before they are approved and subsequently announced.
