Maybe you often wonder, how many times normally husband and wife have sex in a week? When this question is present then there may be dissatisfaction in sex life or worry about the husband experiencing it.
House activities that pile up, not to mention having to teach children, often make sexual desire decrease. This is very likely to make you and your husband rarely have sex.
You may worry that sex will become abnormal and will negatively affect your marriage. So, how many times do you normally have sex in a week?
Instead of guessing, let's find out expert answers so you don't get confused and better understand the routine of sex with your husband.
Sex routines of the week based on research
Based on data from the General Social Survey in 2018, which conducted a survey of 660 married couples, they got some results on how often they had sex in a week for one year.
Quoting from Mind Body Green, the results were mostly 19% having sex two to three times per month, 16% having sex two to three times per week, and only 5% having sex once a week up to 4 or more times a week.
Another study in 2019 of 35,000 Britons, found that around half of respondents had sex less than once a week. Then the frequency of sex decreases with age.
"Sex frequency appears to decrease overall as partners age," sexologist Shamyra Howard, LCSW, told MBG.
Lauren Fogel Mersy, PsyD, AASECT-certified psychologist and sex therapist, adds,
"All aspects of our sexuality can change with age. Arousal and orgasm may take longer, desire decreases, and sexual frequency also decreases, especially in a relationship that matures over many years. Of course this won't apply to everyone but it's commonplace. occur."
How often is it normal for husband and wife to have sex in a week?
The answer is, there is no ideal number of times husband-wife sex is done in a week. What each partner needs or wants will vary based on personal preference.
“The frequency with which couples 'must' have sex is the frequency with which they negotiate based on their individual needs and level of desire. I hesitate to recommend a specific amount as it won't suit most people. When people use statistics to determine their sexual frequency, it only reinforces performative sex," explains Lauren.
Once a week is ideal?
Howard notes that a 2015 study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science found that couples are happiest when they have sex about once a week.
This happiness has to do with relationships that experience a decline in quality when partners have sex less often than that. But it didn't increase if they had sex more often than that.
"It seems the amount to maintain positive sexual well-being in a relationship is once a week," Howard says.
Is it normal to have sex every day for a week?
According to 2018 GSS data, only 5% of married couples say they have sex four or more times per week. So, it is not very common for married couples to have sex every day.
It's not that it's unhealthy or abnormal to have sex every day. If that frequency works for you and your husband, it can still be done, as long as neither party has any objections.
Suggestions for normal husband-wife sex in a week
Quoting from USA Today, outside the context of the normal number of sex in a week, Dr. Peter Kanaris, a clinical psychologist and sex therapist recommends adjusting to each individual's needs. Everyone has different needs and preferences.
You and your husband are more encouraged to set sex activities as a routine, either once or more than that for one week. Regular sexual activity can help improve physical and psychological health.
"Research shows that regular sex habits can improve sleep quality, reduce the risk of heart disease and prostate cancer," said Dr Kanaris.
