Ming-Chi Kuo an analyst who frequently predicted what would happen specifically for Apple products this morning said Apple’s efforts to develop its own custom 5G modems had met with failure. According to him, that is why the iPhone for 2023 will continue to use Qualcomm's 5G modem.
He previously predicted that Apple would only use Qualcomm modems on the iPhone starting 2023. Efforts will continue by Apple to develop its own 5G modems after taking over the modem business from Intel in 2019. The use of Intel modems a few years ago caused issues due to better 4G performance slower than Qualcomm's modems.
Just a few days ago, Apple's appeal to revoke Qualcomm's modem patent was rejected by the US high court. To develop its own modems Apple still has to pay a license to Qualcomm if there is technology of their own.
