Spotify today has taken over the Sonantic firm that produces software that can generate fake voices based on phrases from real voice owners. Deepfake technology for Sonantic’s voice has already been used in the film Top Gun: Maverick to produce the voice of actor Val Kilmer who can no longer speak due to tracheal cancer.
Their technology is also used for the Hey Mercedes virtual assistant that has been used in Mercedes-Benz AG vehicles. With the acquisition of Sonantic, Spotify will use this technology to provide a better experience on their products.
Spotify developed their own virtual developer on Car Thing. It also has the potential to be used by podcast owners to produce episodes based on text input without having to do audio recordings manually.
