The world's largest manufacturer of camera sensors is Sony, which was later followed by Samsung. In a world where the use of cameras is increasing on smartphones, this trend is really benefiting sensor manufacturers. In addition to smartphones, electric cars also require a large number of cameras for various smart features.
According to a Korea Economic Daily report, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. won a contract worth between 4-5 trillion Won (~ RM 14-17 billion) from Tesla to supply camera sensors used on cars. The supplied camera sensor is 5MP. Not amazing for a smartphone but a sharp improvement over the 1.2MP sensor used by Tesla for their previous AutoPilot cameras.
