Apple unveiled their new CarPlay interface at WWDC earlier this morning. With this new design, the entire screen in the vehicle can be used to display CarPlay elements regardless of the number and ratio of screens.
More interestingly according to Apple, CarPlay will have full integration with the vehicle up to the air conditioning system, as well as the vehicle meter display can be changed with Apple’s aesthetic. Users can also add favorite widgets to vehicle screens that support CarPlay in the future.
The list of vehicle models that will support this new CarPlay will only be announced in late 2023. But so far Land Rover, Mercedes, Porsche, Nissan, Ford, Lincoln, Audio, Jaguar, Acura, Volvo, Honda, Infinity and Polestar have already confirmed their support.
With this announcement, we can also see an initial look at how the Apple Car interface is being developed. The steps taken by CarPlay are similar to those taken on Android Auto early last month at Google I/O.
