Wordle creator Josh Wardle then sold his game to the New York Times for a fee of seven figures. For those still playing with Wordle via the original powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle site, the URL will no longer be accessible starting June 9, 2022.
In a tweet posted by the New York Times, users who still want to continue the game can only access it through their site. With the move to a new URL, this may be an early sign that after this you will have to pay to continue playing Wordle in the near future.
