Mark Zuckerberg has not lost his faith in the glorious future of the virtual metaverse, even though he is sometimes criticized. He believes that in the future, the metaverse will be inhabited by a billion people.
"Basically we're hoping to get about a billion people in the metaverse trading hundreds of millions of dollars, buying digital stuff, digital content, different things to express themselves," the Facebook founder said as quoted by CNBC.
"So, whether it's clothes for their avatars or different digital items for their virtual homes or things to decorate their virtual conference rooms with, the tools to make them productive virtually and across the metaverse," he added.
In other words, those people really seem to live in a metaverse world. He claims that in the future, the experience in the metaverse will be as real as possible so that people will feel close even though they are far away.
For this reason, Meta as the parent of Facebook is preparing its ecosystem so that the metaverse will get better in the long term. "We're at a point where companies can fund long-term research investments and that's a big focus," Zuckerberg said.
Previously, Zuckerberg had also shown off several prototypes of Meta's virtual reality (VR) headset. This VR headset will be Meta's and Zuckerberg's weapon to realize the metaverse.
According to Zuckerberg, Meta's ultimate goal in developing a VR headset is to create a device that can pass the 'visual Turing Test', where the virtual world is increasingly indistinguishable from the real world.
"I think we're now in the middle of a big step towards realism. I think it won't be long before we can create scenes with essentially flawless precision," Zuckerberg said.
