All Major Technology Companies Have Obtained PSE Permits To Continue Operations In Indonesia

Let it be late as long as it's safe, this may be the motto used by international technology companies in Indonesia. The companies Meta, TikTok, Twitter, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Netflix and Spotify have all reportedly obtained the necessary Private Scope Electronic System Maintainer (PSE) permits to allow operations to continue

Twitter and Google applied for permits at the last minute after only two days ago still not getting them. The PSE permit allows the Indonesian government to order technology companies to delete content deemed to disturb public order and hand over user data when requested by the authorities.

As the country with the world's fourth largest population, Indonesia is a fairly important market behind China, India and the United States. In order to continue operating in this lucrative market, major technology companies are forced to comply with permits that are seen as hindering freedom of voice.
