Recently, the conversation through gold investment has been active on local social media platforms, but did you know that there is another bigger gold scandal involving a number of leading global technology companies?
Recently, it has been reported by a local newspaper in Brazil that Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft have bought gold from an illegal gold mine, ironically, from the Amazon jungle. These illegal mines are also opened on the reserved lands of the indigenous people in the forests, and until now no action has been taken by the authorities.
The gold purchased by these technology companies will usually be used as electronic materials that will be used in Apple and Microsoft devices, or server machines for Amazon and Google.
Gold factories involved in illegal gold mining include Chimet factories from Italy and Marsam Metals from Brazil and are being investigated by the Brazilian Federal Police due to illegal mining of raw materials and environmental pollution issues.
The previously mentioned technology companies are also reported to have bought gold from these factories in 2020 to 2021 and although these mining companies are being investigated in Brazil, in the United States these two companies are registered and no problems have been reported for this time.
Reporter Brasil has contacted these technology companies, and so far only Apple has issued a statement saying that they no longer buy gold materials from Marsam Metals, but has not said anything about Chimet.
Apart from being used as jewelry and jewellery, gold is also seen as one of the important components in the development of electronic equipment globally.
