Earlier this year, the South Korean government had instructed Apple to allow third -party digital payment services to be used for iOS platform apps. Recently, Apple said that they have developed a new system to allow such applications to implement it.
Named StoreKit External Purchase Entitlement, it allows app developers to implement payment features using third -party services without having to go through Apple’s built -in payment system.
In South Korea, users have a choice of different digital payment platforms such as KCP, Inicis, Toss, and NICE and with the Storekit External Purchase Entitlement function but according to Apple again, this function comes with its own caveats.
This includes the loss of functions such as Ask To Buy and Family Sharing, and any issues regarding purchases and subscriptions made through this third -party payment system will not be borne by Apple.
In the meantime, developers who want to implement this functionality need to be certified by Apple first and fill out this eligibility form first.
