Apple is developing their first self -driving electric car named Projec Titan. After eight years, his design is still a mystery with not much solid information about it being shared publicly. According to a report by The Information this week, the project, which has been dragging on for eight years, is experiencing various internal problems.
The first problem is that the direction of the product is constantly changing. Due to the lack of focus, the number of staff leaving the project is also quite high compared to other Apple businesses. In the same report, Craig Feederighi who is Apple's vice president of software engineering was also said to not believe Projec Titan would succeed.
Another issue faced was a problem with the self -driving software that was being developed. In a test that was done on the road, there was an incident where the car did not stop when a runner crossed the road. It was just trying to change course before action was taken by the human driver to stop the vehicle.
Another issue is the design of the steering wheel markings and brake pedals that Apple wants to use. Jony Ive been involved with Project Titan he wanted Apple’s first car to have a different design than the others. Also to be noted is that the cockpit allows four seats to be rotated so that four passengers can sit opposite when the car is in self -driving mode.
These various issues need to be resolved before the first car is sold to the public. Perhaps because of the same issue, BMW’s CFO was once quoted as not losing sleep with Apple’s entry into the automotive industry.
