For the past three years it has been heard that the company behind TikTok, ByteDance, wants to come up with its own music streaming platform. They were later reported to have discussed with several recording studios to collaborate such as Universal Music, Sony Music and even Warner Music.
This music streaming platform is Resso. It is limited to the Indian market only and for security, Resso is published in the app store under the name Moon Video Inc. even though it is actually owned by ByteDance.
The latest ByteDance looks like it may be ready to launch a music streaming platform more widely. The only thing they will launch later is not Resso, instead they will probably use the name TikTok Music. ByteDance is seen to have already registered a trademark for TikTok Music at the USPTO for the United States market and last year it was registered in Australia.
In this registration document, ByteDance lists TikTok Music as a platform that allows users to buy, play, share and download music along with lyrical support. This document also hints that there may be video streaming support and a commenting system.
For now it is still uncertain when it will be introduced and whether it will be widely launched. Let's wait for more information from ByteDance later.
