FB and IG become like TikTok, making Zuckerberg look wishy-washy

Have you ever seen posts from unknown accounts appear on Facebook and Instagram timelines? Next year, posts like that will be milling about on your timeline.

This is acknowledged by the CEO of Meta - the parent of Facebook and Instagram - Mark Zuckerberg, who said posts from accounts recommended by Facebook and Instagram will double by the end of 2023, and this is contrary to his statement in 2018.

At that time Zuck announced his strategy to focus on social interaction between friends on the News Feed. Zuck guesses that this change will indeed reduce the duration of time users use Facebook, but users will feel better.

"Research shows that when we use social media to connect with the people we know, it's good for us. On the other hand, passively reading articles or watching videos -- even if they can be entertaining or informative -- doesn't." too good," Zuck explained at the time.

As previously reported, this change from Facebook and Instagram to TikTok is referred to as the development of the 'Discovery Engine', which is a radical change on both Facebook and Instagram, which historically only displayed posts according to the user's social graph or from their friends list.

Of course, this change is intended to allow Facebook and Instagram to compete with TikTok, which uses AI to massively 'force' its users to watch any video that is presented.

Although it sounds annoying, this tactic has succeeded in making TikTok the most used application in the world, as quoted from The Verge, Thursday (28/7/2022).

In the Q2 2022 Meta earnings call, Zuck explained that AI can find content that users may find interesting. This can increase engagement and feed quality on the user's timeline.

Zuck ensures that Meta will use AI to recommend all publicly shared content on its service, from links to photos.

"In this case, I think what we're doing will be quite unique. I don't think people will want to be stuck in just one format," explained Zuck.
