Whoops! The price of the iPhone 14 is predicted to be more expensive

Apple fanboys seem to have to spend more to buy the iPhone 14 this year. The reason is, some analysts predict that the price of the iPhone 14 will be more expensive than its predecessor.

Dan Ives, an analyst from Wedbush Securities, believes that the price of the iPhone 14 will rise to USD 100. This price increase is also predicted to occur on all fronts, not only for the Pro variant.

"Prices have gone up throughout the supply chain, and Cupertino needs to pass these costs on to consumers at this year's release," Ives said, as quoted by Apple Insider, Monday (11/7/2022).

Companies that produce various components for cellphones do increase their prices for various reasons, such as Samsung increasing the price of chip production by 20%, as well as other semiconductor companies.

Other factors such as the COVID-19-related lockdowns have also caused a lot of problems for Apple's supply chain, forcing its partners to catch up with production.

Analyst Ben Wood from CCS Insight also confirmed Ives' prediction. Wood confirmed that a price increase for the iPhone 14 is possible, but it all depends on whether Apple will do it.

"There's no question that manufacturing and component costs continue to rise for all manufacturers of consumer electronics, and in the case of the UK, exchange rates are also a factor," Wood said.

"These elements would indicate that a price hike may be necessary."

If Apple really raises the price of the iPhone 14, the price for the standard variant will go up quite significantly. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are priced at USD 799 and USD 999 respectively, so it is likely that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will be priced at USD 899 and USD 1,099 respectively.

However, given that Apple is rumored to be eliminating the mini variant, the entry-level iPhone 14 will likely cost $799, indicating a $100 price increase from the $699 iPhone 13 mini.
