Apple Pays $30.5 Million To Apple Store Employees For Checking Bags After Hours

In order to ensure that no products are stolen by Apple Store employees, Apple has police officers inspecting bags after hours. A few years ago a former employee filed a class action lawsuit against Apple over what he felt was a disgraceful policy that took up employee time without pay.

Yesterday, Apple agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit by paying $30.5 million (~RM138 million) to nearly 15,000 employees and former employees who were affected by the policy that was in effect between 25 July 2009 and 10 August 2015.

Compensation is for the time spent by staff after work to go through the bag inspection process. Apple agreed to settle the issue in November 2021 but it was only agreed by the judge yesterday.
